NJ BASED PRECISION GRAPHICS INC ESTABLISHES A NEW TAIWANESE MANUFACTURING CENTER

To Whom It May Concern:

It gives us great pleasure to announce the formation of Precision Graphics’ new offshore manufacturing center; Precision Graphics, Taiwan. The newly formed venture is the result of over a decade of work with a contract manufacturer based in Taoyuan, Taiwan; Consonic Global. What began with filling a select customer’s needs for offshore manufacturing has culminated in Precision Graphics becoming a global electronics contract manufacturer.

In 2004, a customer came to Precision Graphics with the desire to have assemblies manufactured offshore, but procured and managed through Precision Graphics. Coincidentally, we had learned of a family run operation similar to Precision Graphics, but in Taiwan. One thing led to another and we began to manufacture assemblies for this customer at Consonic Global. Material was procured here at Precision Graphics, kitted, and then shipped to Taiwan for assembly. Once complete, units were shipped back to Somerville, NJ where they went through a final quality inspection by Precision Graphics before being delivered to the customer. We quickly discovered we had a model that would work well for customers that needed offshore manufacturing, but did not want to be involved with the logistics needed to make that happen. This process could be managed by Precision Graphics.

Over the past 15 years the relationship with Consonic Global has evolved to include full testing of PCBAs, electromechanical assemblies, and more. All built in Taoyuan, TW, but managed locally in Somerville, NJ. As more customers required this arrangement, the amount of business being built via Consonic Global for Precision Graphics continued to grow. We realized the potential of this offshore model, and continued to invest resources in it, including adding a fulltime employee on site at the factory in Taiwan.
In 2019, Consonic Global began to build exclusively for Precision Graphics. Driven by this growth we decided to not only increase this offering to customers, but decided to also establish Precision Graphics, Taiwan, virtually a mirror facility of what we have here in New Jersey. We felt this new venture would be paramount to our customers’ success; giving them the flexibility to have every solution they would need from a contract manufacturer, both domestically and internationally.

What we are now creating is a seamless contract manufacturing supply chain. NPI and product development can be handled domestically by our Precision Graphics, NJ team, working with customers to create assemblies that are ready for large volume production runs. Once a product is ready to be released to global manufacturing, customers will no longer need to look overseas for a manufacturing partner, they already have one right here in New Jersey. A smooth transition of the manufacturing process from Precision Graphics, New Jersey to Precision Graphics, Taiwan will take place, allowing customers peace of mind as their product moves offshore.

Our goal is providing customers with electronics manufacturing solutions that best serve their need. We firmly believe that Precision Graphics, Taiwan is the next step in that process, and a key step in our strategic vision. We now operate two state of the art manufacturing facilities, 8,000 miles apart, as one company, Precision Graphics Inc, using over 50 years of quality electronics manufacturing experience.

Sincerely,

Alec R. Weissman
Vice President

For Jared: A Company’s Journey to Come Together

Branchburg NJ — When Mary Beth Schiavone found out that one of her employees was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, she knew she had to do something. Jared was only 20 years old – new to PGI as a night shift SMT Tech, and the son of the SMT Supervisor.
So, she came up with an idea. From her idea – #JaredsJourney was born. Purple ribbons were sold, and T shirts were created, baring the motto: “In this Company, Nobody Fights Alone!”
This wasn’t a mandatory event to participate in, but employees had the opportunity to buy them if they wished. Everyone came together. Many employees purchased shirts for their family members, over 80 shirts were sold. Over $1300 was raised to aide Jared in his fight against cancer. The outcome of the fundraiser truly proved that, in this company, nobody fights alone.

Precision Graphics Installs Juki ISM Storage Towers

MORRISVILLE, NC-October 2019- Juki Automation Systems (JAS), Inc., a world-leading provider of automated assembly products and systems and part of Juki Automation Systems Corporation, is pleased to announce that Precision Graphics Inc. (PGI) has purchased and installed two ISM Towers and an Incoming Material Station. The systems have been installed at Precision Graphics’ 25,000 ft.2 facility in Somerville, NJ.

Chris Gilbertson, Quality Director at Precision Graphics commented: “PGI competes against overseas labor costs so we are always looking for ways to reduce our costs to stay competitive. The Juki Towers give us the ability to reduce the cost of material management. The Towers have increased our efficiencies through automation in Inventory Management and PGI’s Material Handling Processes. This cost savings is passed along to our customers which in turn helps keep the business here in Somerville, NJ.”

Juki’s ISM storage management system provides a flexible storage solution, allowing PGI to focus on its value-adding activities. Using the ISM UltraFlex 3600s, PGI can flexibly store up to 3,644 reels, monitor them intelligently, as well as oversee the fully automatic import and export of the components.

“Precision Graphics has been one of Juki’s most outstanding customers over the years,” states Greg Lefebvre, JAS, Inc. Sales Manager. “They are being asked to continually improve for their growing business thus having tools like Juki’s ISM towers and IMS table enable them to offer stronger and more competitive solutions to their customer base. We look forward to being a strategic partner for Precision Graphics for many years to come.”

With the Incoming Material Station, operators can speed up material registration activities, avoid mistakes, and increase the traceability of each individual reel or component package. With its Auto-Incoming features, it is possible to automatically import information from the supplier and/or customers’ label into the ERP and print a new Unique ID that can be used for many other functions within the factory. In fact, after setting the rules for each supplier’s label, the operator can simply position the material on the Station and the high-resolution camera will read all the needed codes and information, take a picture for traceability purposes and print the new label.

People of PGI: Mary Beth Weissman

One of the principal features and upheld characteristics of our company is the people. The employees are the basis to our success as a company, and we continually thank them for their hard work and determination. Following this statement of gratitude, we believe it is essential to have an internal look at not only the professional spectrum of our workers lives, but the personal perspective as well. We are Precision Graphics Incorporated, and these are our people.

The first individual interviewed and our feature of the month is Mary Beth Weissman, President of PGI. In asking her about her role at PGI and how that has shifted over the years, Mary-Beth’s answer was inspiring and impressive. “My role has changed 100% since I first started at PGI. I started out of school as a receptionist. When I left to start my family, I was Materials Coordinator. I came back as President.” Her leadership is a fundamental aspect to the success of the company, but rising success is not her only credible attribute. Mary-Beth also doubles as the CFO. Chief Fun Officer. With a great management team, Mary Beth is able to plan parties and keep moral up through positivity and motivation. For example, she plans events like the blood drive, proving she is able to accomplish the day-to-day activities, but the “fun stuff” is what she does best. .

In terms of the professional perspective, Mary Beth believes the company is headed towards expansion within the medical, defense and aerospace field. She even gave insight on where PGI is headed, what opportunities are apparent, and what challenges they are facing. “The plan is for PGI to keep growing, keeping up with the latest machinery and technology. In the past three years alone, the company has invested over 1 million in new equipment. We just became AS9100 and that is enabling us to bid on more military and defense work, which is an enormous opportunity for us. Our biggest challenges are finding qualified employees.  Right now our staff is great but when we need to hire we struggle with where to look for people in our field.”

Yet her personal connection to the institution is what keeps her inspired and motivated throughout her days at work. In describing the culture of the company, family and the closeness of the establishment were of utmost significance. Everyone is treated as a family member, and emphasis is placed on making sure family is always a first priority. This is because Mary-Beth loves the people she works with. “I came back here at a very sad time in my life and my work family helped me every day.  I am thankful everyday for the PGI Gang. In accordance with this, I thought I should tell you how I came to work at PGI for the second time. When I was 25 I left PGI to have my children with my husband Dave Weissman. I met him when I started working here at 18. We started dating and fell in love right away. Dave graduated Rutgers and came back to PGI to become Vice President.  In 2008 and we bought the business from Dave’s parents. They retired and moved to Florida. I was not active in the company. I stayed at home with the kids and worked part-time. Dave and I had a routine that on Friday nights he would come home and talk about the entire week of work. This was a good way for him to unwind. Little did I know that all the things he talked about I would need to remember in 2013.  In 2013 Dave passed away suddenly. I was given two choices. Sell PGI or keep it going. I decided there was only one choice and that was to keep it going. People like Scott, Elaine, Diana, Brian, Scottie, Rob, Steve etc. had worked here for years. I needed to keep it going for them. I needed to keep it going to show my kids I could, I needed to keep it going for the sake of Dave’s legacy and I needed to keep it going for myself.  So with the help of a great management staff we kept it going.  I hired a general manager and we did nothing but soar. Every year our profits have gone up. We will only keep getting better. This I am sure of. I am sure of this because now Alec is working here.  He loves PGI as much as his dad and grandfather did. He only wants to see us get better and he is smart and determined.”

Mary Beth is just one of the many incredible people of PGI. Her ethics and determination are attributes which are demonstrative of her work and aspirations to continue to help the company grow. Her personal connections to PGI reveal the working environment which mirrors the closeness of the family-owned business. These qualities create the corporation, and we are proud to have her as  the leader of our team.

Millennials in the Manufacturing Workforce

Millennials. Depending on the generation, this may be a dirty word.  Especially millennials in electronics manufacturing.  There is no clear line what differentiates a millennial from Gen X and Gen Z.  It could be anyone born between 1982 and 2004.  That’s approximately 75 million people; no small group to be laughed at.   Stereotypes have been made about the Millennial Generation; lazy, job hoppers, over-privileged; but here, I have watched our team prove those stereotypes wrong.

A look at our two newest millennial hires is the perfect example; Amin Jaawani and Robert Bradford.  Both of these young men are part of our newly launched internship program with Northampton County Community College. In an effort to continue cultivating the best workforce in the industry, we launched this paid internship program last year for two reasons; cultivating our own workforce, while also giving students the tools to better their future.

As we continue to grow, finding experienced employees has been a struggle.  As manufacturing around NJ shrunk, so did the workforce.  The ability to recruit students while they are still in school has allowed us to develop better employees.  The school provides the academic training, and it allows us to build on that training by teaching them the workplace skills the classroom cannot.  The end product is not only hopefully a great employee for Precision Graphics, but a young person who has the degree and hands-on experience to excel in a manufacturing career.

Amin Jaawani graduated with a degree in Electronics Technology from NCC. He was born in New York and raised on Long Island. When he moved to Pennsylvania eight years ago, he first began to develop an interest in technology.  During his time in high school, he also attended a vocational school for electronics part time. It was there that his aptitude for technology, and desire to work with it were realized. He now works to further his career and knowledge in the industry to be a part of the continuously evolving field.  Amin currently works full time in our test department and fits in extremely well with our PGI team.

Robert is currently studying engineering at NCC.  He hopes of further his education after NCC and become an Electrical Engineer.  He told us when he first started working that he wanted to understand the process behind manufacturing electronics before he got involved in designing them.  Robert explained during his interview that he was always fascinated with science and technology and has a deep passion for innovation.  Outside of work, Robert loves music and is active in a band.  Robert currently works in the Pick and Place department. Within Robert’s first few days, his supervisors were impressed with his ability to understand some of the complex concepts involving the laser measurement used by the pick and place machines.

Anyone that has a generally negative view of Millennials, I invite to come observe our team working.  When I started writing this, I only thought of a few millennials that we have working here.  However, I have come to realize that Millennials make up 20% of our staff, including test technicians, supervisors, shipping and production workers, and myself.  Nearly every department here has a millennial or two in it.  When they are here working, I doubt anyone in our building thinks of them as millennials; they are members of our Precision Graphics team.

Prior to working for Texas Instruments Ken spent his time in distribution in upstate New York before he and his family moved to New Jersey where they have resided since 1987.

With his outside sales experience and Electronic background, Ken will be the catalyst needed to propel Precision Graphics forward to a new level of growth. For the past 28 years while with Texas Instruments, Ken has served as Regional Sales Manager and Distribution Manager.  His responsibilities included multiple markets and he gained an intimate knowledge of the customers in those markets.  Ken spoke of the changing dynamic in our industry, “The electronic business over the last 25 plus years has seen incredible change in the supply chain, much of the manufacturing has moved from the OEM to the electronic manufacturing service industry. This continues to provide an exciting opportunity to assist customers as they move toward product realization.”

“With the past 5 years of positive growth I believe the hiring of Ken, coupled with the investments we have made in equipment and manufacturing personnel, puts us in a strong position in the electronic manufacturing world.  We are not only able to compete domestically but we are also working hard to bring manufacturing back to the USA. Hiring Ken as Outside Sales Manager is another facet in showing our customers how we can serve as their manufacturing arm.  Chris speaking of future growth and the hiring of Ken,

“We were winning many first time bids but what is really exciting is the amount of repeat business for not only those specific projects but we started getting involved in many other projects within the same company. Our customers understood that when we said we will do everything possible to make them successful we meant it! It was clear to me that what we needed now was to find someone who could concentrate on finding the engineer and/or business that was looking for that partnership. When I heard Ken was available, I knew he was the right guy for this job.  With his years of electronic experience and involvement in new product introduction I felt Ken was a perfect match for us. I could not be more excited to have him on our team.”
